Polyethylenterephthalat (short PET) is a thermoplastic plastic produced by polycondensation in the family of polyesters. PET has many different uses and is used for the manufacture of plastic bottles (PET bottles), films as well as textile fibers. The yearly worldwide production accounts more than 40 million tonnes.
PET is polar, because there are strong intermolecular forces. The molecular structure is linear without any crosslinks. Both are essential for semi-crystalline areas and fibers. High tensile strength and dimensional stability at temperatures above 80 ° C are the result of the above mentioned.
